I stopped eating animals and their products 5 years ago, I found out where those foods come from and wanted no more of that in my body. It works for me, I feel great on a plant based diet and can’t imagine ever going back.

Matt Fox– former professional athlete and founder of Body Weight Built

I had been going to the gym and lifting weights religiously for the best part of 10 years. As with most young men I wanted to build a strong, muscular body that I was confident in. The gym helped me develop slightly in the first few years, or maybe it was just the natural process of growing and my body filling out- I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that the last 3-4 years of my gym attending existence reaped nothing but social chatter and catch ups.

My results stalled, I tried everything (so I thought) different lifting routines/splits/different ways of eating etc and nothing gave me the results I wanted, my strength had really improved and no noticeable muscle definition was added.

This is all changed when I changed one thing! How I trained. I quit lifting weights and quit going to the gym. I opted for calisthenics/body weight training and the results were immediate. No other aspect of my fitness and health changed bar the training so it wasn’t my diet!

Body weight training sounds easy because your initial thought is that you need weights to build muscle, it’s what has been drilled into us from when we are young. But I am proving that false. Muscles grow and develop when given resistance to work against and your body weight creates more than enough resistance. The variety of exercises are endless and there are progressions that continually challenge you no matter how good you become. Think of a gymnast’s body, they have physiques most people dream of yet all their training is based around and stems from calisthenics training.

The best part of this training style other than the amazing full body strength it develops is that you don’t need to rely on a gym or fancy machines and equipment. You can do your workouts at home or outside enjoying the environment, doing this frees up your time and lets you explore more of your surrounds.

Changing the way I training has completely changed my life, not just with obtaining the results I’ve always wanted but allowing me to create a business from it and help others do the same. I love helping people become the best versions of themselves and show them that gym and weight lifting is definitely not the only way to go about this, in fact in most cases I have come across there are more unsatisfied gym users in regards to their results than people training calisthenics. It’s provided me more freedom and time to spend with my wife and son as I do the majority of my workouts at home or at the local park while they are around.

My advice to others would be to explore other options that are out there to improve your fitness or smash through plateaus you may be stuck in. Functional fitness is differently the way to go in terms of developing a strong, fit and healthy body which enormous fat loss benefits.

Hypnotherapy and NLP sessions with Arthur Marx from the Sydney Results Clinic. It totally changed my whole mindset, cured me of PTSD and anxiety, helped me to get rid of bad habits. It’s been 7 years now and the changes still last 😉

Tegan Haining– PT, former international model and author of the 7-Day Quickie

Trying to do too much. I used to do Ashtanga yoga 4 times a week and also became a PT at the same time, training with weights most days at the gym. I was exhausted! I changed up my training, adopting the 2-3 gym sessions a week philosophy and practicing a gentle form of yoga twice per week instead. My body was more balanced and I wasn’t so tired and stressed all the time. Best change I’ve ever adopted.
