Today we are so excited to feature one of our absolutely favourite Pilates instructors who is based out of Body Mind Life in Bondi. Tali Phillips has been practising for 10 years and she delivers one killer workout. You certainly won’t get bored in her class! Here’s all you need to know.
What inspired you to become a Pilates instructor?
One of my close friends was a wonderful instructor with her very own studio. I started practicing with her a few times a week and just fell in love with how Pilates made my body feel
How long have you been practicing for?
I have been practicing Pilates for 10 years and teaching for 6 years
What do you love about your job?
I love sharing my joy of movement and exercise with others. It’s such a satisfying feeling watching clients grow stronger and become more confident with the way their bodies can move.
Where can people train with you?
I am a permanent fixture on the timetable at BodyMindLife – Bondi Beach and but am also available for one on one private sessions.
What is your wake up time?
I have a 3 year old who is up with the birds, so usually around 6am.
The morning and nighttime routines that I swear by?
If I’m being honest, I don’t have a particular morning routine, but the last thing I do every night is sit down for a cup of herbal tea. It’s such a nice way to decompress after a long day at work (or parenting!)
What is one unique thing you do that has changed your life?
HIIT classes – woah! I try to get to at least 2 classes a week and have become a little addicted to that cardio high
What is your day on a plate for a normal day?
That’s a tough question as every day is different, but being a creature of habit, breakfast is almost always gluten-free toast with avocado
Do you have any health philosophies that you live by?
Carve out time every day to do something you love, whether that’s doing a workout, meditating or throwing yourself in the ocean.
What are your top health spots near home? You can’t go past Calipress for a smoothie.
Favourite cheat-meal? Chocolate mousse
What is the best health treatment you have ever had and why?
Body scrubs are my favourite! Not only does your skin feel amazing afterwards but the act of massaging the scrub in to your your skin increases circulation, helps drain your lymph nodes and remove impurities and toxins from your skin.
Favourite place to work out?
Favourite brunch spot and what do you order? Clodeli for their breakfast bowl and yummy coffee
Coffee order? Latte
Do you have a hack to help you with eating well when you are busy? Try to plan ahead and pack a healthy snack if you know you’re going to be busy and may have to skip a meal.
What’s one thing people probably don’t know about you? I am fluent in Indonesian
Do you have any habits that your friends think are weird? None that I want to air in public!
How do you unwind? I like to do puzzles
The app you love? 8Fit for fun workouts you can do at home.
Go to Binge watch series? Outlander (don’t judge me)
Instagram stalker to: All things pilates, fitness and food
Tali first began practicing Pilates as a form of exercise while working full-time in the corporate world. It was through this that she discovered the joys of this type of movement, walking out of every class feeling taller and more balanced along with noticing an increase in strength around her joints and overall flexibility. A true passion for Pilates was born and she is now STOTT certified in both Matwork and Reformer and trained on the full range of studio equipment. Tali is also pre and post-natal trained by The Center For Women’s Fitness.
When you attend Tali’s group Reformer classes, you’ll enjoy her lightness, her humour and her ability to make working hard so much fun. While always a stickler for technique, Tali aims to have her clients enjoy their Pilates session while achieving their goals and getting the workout they want.
