In honour of the Victoria’s Secret Show which is just around the corner, we had the pleasure of interviewing Andrea Rogers, the founder of Xtend Barre and trainer to the Angels including Martha Hunt, who uses her ballet-inspired workouts to tone up.
In September, she led a Train Like an Angel class with the V.S’s Angels in the lead up to the Fashion Show, needless to say that we were excited when we heard she was visiting Australia and immediately asked for her tips!
Can you tell us a bit about the Xtend Barre workout?
Xtend Barre combines classical Pilates movements with ballet and high energy cardio to deliver a workout that tones, strengthens and lengthens the body.
We don’t just stand at the barre. We use hand weight, Pilates sticks and Fitballs in unique ways to keep our clients moving – engaging different part of their bodies and challenging them to challenge themselves in each class. You’ll never take the same class twice at an Xtend Barre studio.
You train some of the women with the best bodies in the world. What are some of your tips when it comes to staying lean, but also managing to get toned without the bulk?
No other workout combines grace and athleticism like Xtend Barre and this is why so many women love it. By combining traditional Pilates methods with ballet and high energy cardio, the workout is designed to sculpt bodies into lean, toned, ‘dancer like’ physiques. We use small weights and high repetitions to deliver toning without the bulk.
For you, how often do you train in a week?
I do a full Xtend Barre workout at least 3 times a week – no matter where in the world I am! I also carry my resistance bands with me at all times!
What is your average day on a plate?
In terms of my diet, I don’t count calories or ever go on a diet. I don’t restrain myself from having something delicious like a cupcake or a cookie, as moderation is key to a healthy life — I will indulge occasionally. But I always try to make it as healthy as possible. As opposed to eating Oreos I’ll buy a similar-ish organic option. So I eat the most clean, healthy foods available.
A typical day on a plate is eggs and avocado for breakfast, a salad with heaps of veggies for lunch and then fish or chicken with greens for dinner. I also have chocolate protein smoothies throughout the day as I find this help to manage my sugar cravings!
What is one thing you can’t live without?
Music! It’s what underpins my passion for movement and dance. I can’t imagine my life without it.
Your best life tip?
Surround yourself with great people that inspire and energise you. Having the right people by my side has been key to building Xtend Barre and getting me to where I am today – I couldn’t have done it without them.
